Taking an Online Course

Q: Why should I take a course from JADE Learning?

A: You will find our courses to be some of the lowest-priced, as well as the most informative and professionally done. AND our ‘Pay after you pass’ lets you take the course AND pass it before paying. You can sign up for a course any time and, if you like it, finish it for credit. To get a better idea of what you stand to gain, please visit our electrical continuing education page.

Q: What can I expect when I take a course from JADE Learning?

A: Yes. In the majority of states, we only offer continuing education courses which have been approved by the state boards. Some state boards assign course numbers, and some state boards assign provider numbers. Some states do not regulate or approve either course providers or continuing education courses; in these instances we do meet the state requirements for providing continuing education. When available, approval information is available under the “Courses” tab, with the course listings.

Q: When can I take my courses?

A: JADE Learning offers unlimited access, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our courses can be accessed any time, from any computer with an Internet connection. You can log in and out of courses at any point, and when you log back in, you can return to your first unanswered question.

Q: Do I need special computer hardware or software to take JADE Learning courses?

A: Because JADE Learning is committed to providing accessible continuing education courses, we limit the use of special software needed to view courses. The following programs will enable you to take full advantage of our courses:

If you do not have these software programs installed, they are available free of charge from the manufacturer's website. Installation is easy and step-by-step instructions for download are provided.

Q: How long does a course take to complete?

A: It depends on the course and the state. Some states require that the course be timed; in these cases 1 hour of the course is timed as either 50 or 60 minutes.

50 minute states include: Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Michigan, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming.

60 minute states include: Kentucky, New Hampshire, Virginia.

Q: Do I have to stay on the computer the whole time?

A: No. All courses save your responses as you submit them, so you can logout whenever you'd like. Answer one question, 10 questions, finish the course...you can complete the course in however many sessions you'd like. Your progress will be saved, and if your course is timed, your accumulated time will also be saved.

Q: How does the course timer work?

A: For states that have a time requirement, courses are timed for either 50 or 60 minute credit hours. Once you click on a section to begin, you will see your time start to accumulate. You have to be active within the course to keep your time accumulating. If you leave the course or spend too much time on another website, you will be automatically logged out. Once your timer accumulates the required amount of time and you have finished the course, you will be able to proceed to payment. There is no maximum time for any course; you can take as long as you need to complete a course.

Q: What happens if I fail?

A: Once you answer all of the questions, if you do not meet a passing score, you will fail the course. You will see a link that says "Click here to give it another shot!". Clicking on this link will reset your entire course and you will have another chance to pass. If your course is timed, the timer will continue to accumulate time and will not start over.

Q: What is a passing score?

A: It depends on the state:

70% = International Code Council, South Carolina, Louisiana, Colorado, Mississippi, New Jersey, West Virginia, South Dakota, New York - City of Troy, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Dakota, Texas, Tennessee, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Vermont, Montana, Maine, Idaho, Alaska, Florida - Dade County, Arkansas, Delaware, Maryland - Cecil County, California, Kentucky, North Carolina, Alabama, New Mexico, Virginia, Oklahoma, Ohio.
75% = Washington, New Hampshire, Oregon, Utah, Nevada - Clark County, Florida.
80% = Minnesota.

Q: How do I find my place within the course when I log back in?

A: Use the Main Menu to select a specific location within the course. The questions that have already been answered have a or a next to them. Unanswered questions have a next to them.

Q: What do the icons on the Main Menu mean?

A: The icons next to each section in the Main Menu indicate the following:

- The question in the section has not been answered.

- The question in the section was answered correctly.

- The question in the section was answered incorrectly.

Q: What do the icons on the course pages mean?

A: After your question has been answered, you may see this icon next to the course content. This indicates that other users have had comments about this section, and those comments have been answered by an instructor. If you would like to ask a question, look over these comments first, to see if your question has already been answered. If you would still like to ask a question, you can click on the "I still want to submit my question/comment" button.

Q: I found a typo/error in the course.

A: We always proofread and test our courses multiple times, but if you find a typo or something doesn't seem to be working properly, let us know. Email support@jadelearning.com or call us at 1(800)443-5233.

Q: Will you keep records of my courses?

A: JADE Learning will maintain confidential records of courses completed. These records can only be accessed by authorized personnel and will not be shared with anyone other than the customer. JADE Learning will never sell your information to anyone. If you need a duplicate certificate to verify course completion, please call us at 1(800)443-5233 or email us at registrar@jadelearning.com.

Continuing Education

Q: Is JADE Learning an approved provider of continuing education?

Q: How do I earn continuing education credit?

A: Licensees are eligible for continuing education credit upon successful completion of JADE Learning courses. It is expected that participants complete all course materials and all course activities. To earn continuing education credit, licensees must:

1. Answer all course questions.
2. Achieve a passing score (varies from state to state).
3. Meet any additional state requirements such as a time requirement.
4. Pay for the course.

Q: What are course approval/expiration dates?

A: JADE Learning courses have different approval dates from course to course and state to state. An expiration date for each course will be identified on the course listings page for each state. One month before a course expires, the expiration date will appear in red, and there will be a warning in your account if you have signed up for the course. Once a course has expired, no continuing education hours will be awarded for that course. Make sure to complete AND pay for a course before its expiration date.

Q: How do I sign up for a classroom course?

A: For the state of North Carolina, we do offer in-person classroom courses, generally twice a month. To sign up for a class, go to our NC Electrical Continuing Education Classroom Courses Signup Page. You may also register over the phone by calling us at 1(800)443-5233. These classes are approved for North Carolina Electrical Licensees.

Q: Who teaches your courses?

My Account

Q: Do you need my license number?

A: Yes. This information will be requested when you are paying for the course. In cases where the state board is notified, this information is very important. Make sure your license number is entered accurately.

Q: What if I have more than one license number for my one state?

A: If you are licensed in one state and have more than one license number for THAT state, you can enter all of the numbers for that state and separate them with a comma "," or a slash "/" However, if you are licensed in multiple states you may be able to get those courses reciprocated to other states. You will be asked if you want to “add credit for other states” when you are starting the payment process.

Q: How do I correct my name/address/account information?

A: Login to your account and under Profile Details, click on “Update Profile”. You can edit your name, company, address, email address, and phone number. To edit your license number, enter the number accurately when making a payment. If you've already paid and just realized it was entered wrong, please give us a call at 1(800)443-5233.

Q: How do I delete a course from my account?

A: You can do so by going to your account wallet and clicking on "Account Tools" (1st card top right), then on the left side of the wallet you will see, "Remove items from your account" come up. Click on the link, and it will guide you to a page where you can delete the course.

Q: How do I view/print a receipt?

A: You can do so by going to your account wallet and clicking on "Payment History" (2nd card top right), then on the left side of the wallet you will see all of the courses you have paid for online. You can click the "View Receipt" links to view or print your receipt.

Payment

Q: How long do I have to pay for a course?

A: A course will remain in your account as pending until it is paid for. You may pay for a course up to the course expiration date. Once a course is expired, we cannot give credit for it.

Q: What forms of payment are accepted?

A: JADE Learning accepts VISA, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express credit and debit card payments, as well as checks and money orders. Electronic credit card payments are made using a secure server, and the card information is destroyed afterwards.

Q: When do I pay?

A: Payment is only required after you complete and pass a course. There is no fee required to register or to sign up for any course.

Q: I have completed my course, how do I pay?

A: In order to pay for a course you must:

1. Answer all questions in the course.
2. Achieve a passing score (varies from state to state).
3. Meet any additional state requirements such as a time requirement.

When you are on a course question, click on Main Menu. Once you are at the Main Menu you should see a green box that says: "Click here to proceed to payment." Click on that link and follow the prompts to pay for your course. If you do not see a green box, you may have unanswered questions or have not yet met a time requirement. If you are still having problems after answering all questions and if necessary, meeting a time requirement, give us a call at 1(800) 443-5233. If you are on the My Account page after completing a course, you should see blinking text above the wallet that says: "You have a payment waiting." You may also click there to follow prompts and pay for the course.

Q: Why do you need my email address for payment?

A: Email addresses are required for the online payments and allow a receipt to be emailed to you.

Q: If I have a discount code, how do I use it?

A: Once you have proceeded to payment, there will be text below the courses that says "If you have a discount code, enter it here." Enter your discount code in that box and click "Apply Code(s)". You will then see the payment total update to reflect your discount.

Reporting

Q: Can I print out my certificate of completion?

A: Yes. Once a course is finished and paid for, you can click on "Completed Courses" and generate a PDF copy of your certificate.

Q: When will I get my certificate of completion?

A: If you choose to have your certificate emailed, it will be automatically emailed to you within 10-15 minutes after you pay for the course. If you choose to have your certificate mailed, it will be mailed via First Class mail within 2-3 business days. Generally, certificates are mailed out the next business day. Certificates are mailed from Raleigh, North Carolina.

Q: Does JADE Learning notify the state of my hours?

A: In most cases, yes. Unless the state requests that the licensee submit their own proof of course completion, we do notify the state boards. The detailed information of this process is available under the Courses tab, with course listings.

Q: Can my course be reciprocated?

A: For $25.00, some courses can be reciprocated to an additional state. This depends on the course, state you are receiving credit for, and state you would like to reciprocate credit to. Q: What do I do next?

A: After completing your continuing education hours, you must also renew your license with the state board. In some states, that can be done online. Make sure your hours have been reported before trying to renew your license. For more board information, go to the "Courses" tab, and look under the state information.

Q: I can't access an online course.

A: Please ensure you are registered with JADE Learning, and have entered the correct login and password in the login box. Click here to register.

Q: I can access a course, but cannot view the course materials.

A: There are four primary culprits for this issue:

1. Pop-up blocking software is enabled. For Internet Explorer:

2. A Sun Microsystems© Java© plug-in may not be installed. download now.
3. Adobe© Flash Player© is not installed. download now.
4. You may be using an operating system other than Windows©. Although most courses will work on mobile devices, some courses require a Flash Player which is not currently available on iPhone or iPad devices.

Q: I am unable to view, print or download a handout or document.

A: Adobe© Reader © is not installed, or the installed version is older than 5.0. download now.

Q: The links within a course are not working.

A: Pop-up blocking software may be enabled. Please see above for instructions in disabling your Pop-up blocker.

Q: The animations/activities within a course are not working.

Q: What if I can't find the answer to my technical question on the FAQs page?

A: JADE Learning knows how important customer support is when in an online environment. Customer support is available via email and phone. Video

Q: How do I play the video?

A: Click on the Play symbol in the middle of the image - a circle with a triangle in it. That will start your video.

Q: My video is not playing. What do I do?

A: If there is a black square with a loading symbol in the middle, your video is still loading. Depending on your internet connection and device, it may take a few minutes to load. You can click pause and let the video load some before trying to play it again. If you are having trouble on a specific mobile device, you may want to try watching the video on another mobile device, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer.

Q: How do I review part of the video?

A: You can click on the white play bar at the bottom of the video to navigate within the video. You can go forward or backward.

Q: I can't hear the video. What do I do?

A: Make sure your computer or mobile device has the sound turned on. Turn the volume up if needed. Make sure the volume on the video is on. On the speakerphone symbol, you should see wave images coming out of it. If there are no waves, your volume is muted. Click the symbol to turn the volume on.

Q: How do I make the video full screen?

A: There is an arrow icon in the bottom right hand corner of the video that shows two arrows pointing away from each other. Click on this button to make the video full screen. You can click it again or click "Esc" to return to the smaller sized video.

Q: How long are the videos?

A: Videos vary in length, but the total length of the video will show in the lower right hand corner. For example, 5:38 indicates the video is five minutes and thirty-eight seconds.

Q: The video finished playing. What do I do next?

A: Click on any of the navigation below the video. You can click "next →" to continue to the next section, or "Main Menu" to return to the course menu.

Q: How do I finish the video course?

A: Watch all of the course videos and meet the time requirement. Once you finish the course, you will be prompted to pay for the course.
