To become certified, an electrician must pass a certification examination and have the required experience - between 4,000 and 8,000 hours of work, depending on the license.
Certification expires three years from its effective date. In order to renew, a certified electrician must work 2,000 hours in the industry and take 32 hours of continuing education.
